Updating templates is unfortunately not as straightforward a process as one would wish. To install updated templates, the old templates have to be deleted and removed from the Memento Database app first. This also means that any links to existing Google sheets are lost as new spreadsheets will be generated by Memento when libraries from new templates are linked to Google Sheets.
1. Backup library data
Before updating the PA templates, ensure that you have backed up the data for each library either by synchronising it with Google Sheets or by exporting the data to a CSV file. To do this open each library by tapping the corresponding tile.
2. Remove old template libraries
Tap the three vertical dots in each of the librarey panels and tap delete Memento Database from the Google Play store by scanning or tapping the QR code below.
The process needs to be repeated with the remaining libraries until no library panels remain. Next, tap the main menu icon (hamburger icon) in the top left, select "Recycle Bin" and tap the three vertical dots in the top right corner to empty the recycle bin and purge the old templates from the device.
3. Download Penguin Archive templates
Download the latest Penguin Archive templates by scanning or tapping the QR code below.
4. Install PA templates
Open the Memento Database, tap "Add libraries" in the centre of the screen and tap "Import Template".
Select the downloaded Penguin Archive template file and tap the tick mark icon in the top left of the screen to install the PA templates.
5. Finalize template installation
Tap the tick mark icon in the top left of the screen to create Penguin Archive libraries from the imported templates. In the next screen tap "NO, THANKS" in the {cloud read} prompt. This only applies with monthly subscription licenses and is not required. Tap the back-arrow in the top left of the screen to go to the Penguin Archive library overview screen.
Tap the three vertical dots in the top right corner of the tile labelled "Install", select "Delete" and confirm the deletion of the "Install" library.
6. Relink to Google Sheets
Tap the three vertical dots on the first of the eight tiles of the Penguin Archive templates in Memento, tap "Link to Google Sheets", activate the "Upload fules (images)..." switch and tap OK.
Repeat this process with the remaining libraries.
Note: If the device is registered with the central Penguin Archive database, please email Thomas Mattern to update the link between database and the newly generated Google sheets. Once these links have been re-established, data can be repopulated to both the new Google sheets and the device from the central database. This method will also ensure that data is re-populated in the format corresponding to the latest templates.
7. Re-populate data
Open each library by tapping the corresponding tile, swipe towards the screen centre from the right to reveal the libray menu, tap "Import and export", select "Import from CSV" and select the corresponding CSV file generated in step 1 to repopulate the data.
